Just got a new story entitled “Saturday’s Child” published for the new year in Aurora Wolf. This piece was inspired by the 1970s, particularly the pop culture back then, as well as apocalyptic themes. (Yes, I’m a 70s child and like that era:), hence the hippy, groovy sounding name.
Even though I was just a child at the time, looking back at that period in retrospect, it was a simpler, more innocent time compared to now. I remember riding in cars without wearing a seat belt (what safety?!), being a latch key kid, having cool toys (remember the Mego action figures?), hearing disco and classic rock staples like Journey and Bee Gees on the radio, and seeing President Carter on TV.
It’s fun to reflect back and sprinkle ingredients from the past into your writing. We’re living in an age now where one can get a lot of inspiration from the current climate, for example, technology, the environment, scientific advances, politics, foreign/military affairs. A lot of food for thought. But for now, kick back, relax, take a swig from your favorite beer, and enjoy “Saturday’s Child”.
